If you are in Bulgaria on holiday, or perhaps on a business trip and you
like soccer then a trip to any number of Bulgaria's football grounds has
got to be on the top of your list for things to do. The great thing about
Bulgarian soccer is there is always a top football club in every major city
and town and in many places like Sofia, Bourgas, Varna, Stara Zagora,
Plovdiv and Smolyan there are several. Admission prices can be as low as 2
BG Levs - they rarely go higher than 5 BG Levs.
If you would like to see a few matches in different places you will find
that there are excellent transport links. You could watch Levski in the
capital, Sofia then take a 2 hour coach trip to Plovdiv and watch Botev in
the evening or the next day. If you are outside the main coach station in
Plovdiv during the afternoon more often than not you will also be able to
see players from one of Plovdiv's local teams, Spartak doing their football
training for free.
After you could spend a day sightseeing in Plovdiv before making your 2
hour bus journey to Stara Zagora or perhaps choose a less than 3 hour coach
ride to the beautiful town of Smolyn. Then again you could go to Varna on
the Black Sea Coast watch an early evening football game (kick off usually
6 o'clock) and then take the overnight train to Sofia having booked a
sleeper ( 17 bg levs) and watch a game in the capital in the afternoon
before flying back home. The choices open to you are endless!
